As owner of Company Wide Shut, a boutique design shop that was a vendor to multiple film and TV studios, I brought my design experience to this project for Pixelogic Media for Disney.
For a re-release of multiple James Cameron films on Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and iTunes, I leveraged the key art for each property and reformatted the designs to landscape aspect from their original portrait orientation.
Also shown: screenshot of a social media teaser for The Godyssey pilot (for creator Joey Soloway). I often work directly with directors, creating pitch books, websites and promotional materials. Shown are some examples of work for Darren Stein’s independent film GBF and Joey Soloway’s Sundance Film Festival entry, Afternoon Delight.
With my background in screen design for physical media, I created illustrations for Futurama on DVD and Blu-ray (Fox Home Entertainment).
I’ve been using generative AI with more frequency, integrating it as the shiny new tool in my took kit.
Pictured:
• Midjourney re-creations of a personal memory: a house explosion I experienced in childhood, of which I had no visual documentation. When the house behind us was engulfed in fire in the middle of the night, I took my caged parakeet and dog to a safe distance.
• AI imagery intended for a director’s pitch deck.
My fine art education and eye for detail and consumer trends allow me to create logos for both filmed entertainment and corporate America.
Pictured below are some representative samples of logo and brand design.
• HellaTech logo for Disney’s Talent Showcase 2024. Final logo variations and HellaTech HQ lobby view.
• Coffee truck logo and vehicle graphics for Afternoon Delight.
• Live in Front of a Studio Audience logo and title screens for Act III Productions.
• The Liaison logo for an Anderson Cooper / Jane Lynch segment on the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
• Church & State logo for Funny or Die, featuring Jane Lynch as ‘Church’ and Jordan Peele as ‘State.’
• Amgen Data Marketplace logo and branding.
In addition to prepping art files for printing, I sometimes use my architectural background and set design experience to locate those graphics within event or institutional space.
On this page: multiple wall graphics for a solo exhibition by fine artist Elana Mann. The two posters shown are by Tomorrow Girls Troop, who are collaborators with Mann and used her sculptures in their series. This show was installed at Pitzer College Art Galleries in Claremont, CA.
Also shown: “Shangri-La” signage for the Amazon series Transparent. The new sign was fabricated and mounted to a wall plug in matching paint and texture to the existing building. For the duration of the exterior shoot, the Hollywood Riviera became the Shangri-La, hopefully not confusing residents and visitors.
Hand prop concepts for the Amazon series Transparent (Mort Pfefferman’s published books, Glitterish album covers, Mort’s Emily Dickinson book-on-tape, period soup cans).
Weekly Indie LA covers for Joey Soloway’s Afternoon Delight.
Chimichanga wrapper/prop created for special shoot for Deadpool UHD/Blu-ray/DVD motion menus (20th Century Fox).
There have been more than a handful of projects that have benefited from my drawing skills. Below are a few examples that are personal favorites of mine.
• Tarot card illustrations for Valencia: The Movies.
• “Mort” illustrated story concept inspired by Transparent.
• TV camera for Kushellivision production company ID.
• Faux retro Saturday morning cartoon clip for Deadpool 2 UHD/Blu-ray/DVD menus.
